NUMBER OF UNI-EN-ISO 14001 CERTIFICATES

The indicator refers to company sites with an environmental management system compliant with the UNI-EN-ISO 14001 standard, certified by a body accredited by ACCREDIA which certifies its competence and independence according to the international reference standards. There are 41,167 Italian company sites in possession of a certification valid at the end of 2025, a sharp increase compared to 2024 (37,540). 50% of certified companies are concentrated in the Northern regions and Lombardy holds the record for certifications with 8,258 company sites with a management system compliant with UNI-EN-ISO 14001. In addition to Italian company sites, a significant share of foreign companies, equal to 17% of the total, have also certified their environmental management system. The economic sectors in which there is the greatest adherence to certification are "Construction", "Transport, logistics and communications" and "Other services" with 5,528, 4,760 and 4,153 certified company sites.
LICENSES AND PRODUCTS/SERVICES CERTIFIED WITH THE EU ECOLABEL

EU Ecolabel is the voluntary eco-label of the European Union, governed by Regulation (EC) no. 66/2010 and subsequent amendments, which distinguishes products and services characterized by a reduced environmental impact during the entire life cycle, while guaranteeing high performance standards. The indicator shows the number of certifications in force issued by the competent Italian body to companies applying for their products and services, which stand out on the Italian market for their attention to the environment and consumers. The number of licenses and products/services increased in the period from 1998 to 2025. In 2025, there are 585 EU Ecolabel licenses in force in Italy, for a total of 19,218 certified products/services, distributed across 18 active groups of products/services.
NUMBER OF EMAS REGISTRATIONS

As of 31 December 2024, the number of organisations listed in the EMAS register, net of cancellations and suspensions, totals 1,185. This figure confirms a recovery compared to 2018, showing an increase of 22.8%. The total number of new EMAS certificates issued to organisations/businesses is 2,357. The productive sectors with the highest participation are: Waste and Material Recovery, Energy, Building and Landscape Services, Specialised Construction Works, Public Administration, and Wholesale Trade. The leadership of the Central-Northern regions is reflected in regional measures supporting EMAS. The most active regions are Lombardy, Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna, and Lazio. Regarding EMAS registrations by organisation type, recent years show a generally stable situation with a balanced distribution among small, medium, and large enterprises.
