Presentation of the System Environment Report (SNPA) and Environmental Data Yearbook (ISPRA)

The Environmental Data Yearbook and the Environment Report, expression of the National System for Environmental Protection (RA-SNPA), in their fifteenth and first edition respectively, together represent the most complete, reliable and reasoned official source of inter-thematic environmental information in our country. The event, one year after the entry into force of the law establishing the National System for Environmental Protection, testifies to the growing and increasingly effective collaboration between the various components of the SNPA on the priority topic of environmental information.

The Environmental Data Yearbook with a core set of 311 indicators for a total of 140,000 updated data, is not just a "Data Bank", i. e. A simple information system, but represents a useful and complete knowledge tool at the service of citizens, experts and political decision makers. In fact, this edition of the Yearbook also includes the "Data on the Environment" report, with a selection and summary of the environmental themes and indicators in line with the objectives of the VII Environmental Action Program of the European Environment Agency; the "Yearbook in figures", which provides a summary of the Yearbook (full version) accessible to a wide audience, including non-experts, and finally "Recapitulating... the environment" which, for some of the most interesting environmental topics, provides a summary and comparison with other European countries.

The important role played by the SNPA in environmental research, monitoring and control in the country emerges clearly in the RA-SNPA which, in its first edition, is made up of two documents "Environment in the Foreground" and "Environment in the Foreground: Regional Indicators and Specificities". In fact, both documents, in addition to representing an updated reading of the environmental situation in Italy on the shared basis of the Yearbook data, provide a complete picture of the broad and important activity of the System, through 86 short articles concerning particularly relevant aspects of both a general nature and of local interest.
