The situation is serious for fauna and flora, threatened by pollution and alien species. Only 48% of Italian rivers and 20% of Italian lakes are in good condition. The protected areas of our country are doing well. Temperatures are rising in Italy more than in other parts of the world (+1.71° in 2018 versus +0.98° globally). Greenhouse gases are decreasing (-17.2% from 1990 to 2018). Air pollution: daily limits are exceeded (PM10 in 21% of stations), but in Italy in the medium-long term pollutants are decreasing. Europe's sick Po Valley basin. With 18.3% renewable energy, Italy exceeds the 2020 target set by the EU (17%).
On 3 June, the three reports dedicated to the environmental situation in Europe and Italy were presented in live streaming, via video conference with Giuseppe Conte, Prime Minister, and David Sassoli, President of the European Parliament: the SOER 2020 (State of the Environment Report), the 2019 Environmental Data Yearbook which photographs the state of the environment in Italy and the System Environment Report which presents regional experiences.
This year, information on the environment in Italy is compared with recent European trends developed by the European Environment Agency and illustrated last December in Brussels in the "SOER 2020 - State of the Environment Report".
