On 28 September ISPRA presents the methodological document "Indicators, indices and scenarios for the analysis of the main environmental trends". The publication analyzes the main emerging environmental issues (natural capital, climate change, circular economy and environment and health) through three different approaches whose common thread is the use and valorisation of trend of the most significant indicators present in the Environmental indicators database.
The first relates the trend of the environmental indicators and the reference regulatory developments, the second proposes a simplified and communicative description of the trends of the main environmental themes through composite indices, finally, the third describes the process of building environmental scenarios, as a tool to support strategic planning.
In detail, the first two chapters provide useful elements to support strategic planning activities to create effective protection measures that allow national and international environmental objectives to be achieved in line with what has been established (Agenda 2030, European Green Deal, PNRR, National Circular Economy Strategy, National Sustainable Development Strategy, etc.). Finally, the third chapter describes the study with which ISPRA is part of the recent debate on futures studies in the environmental field, the discipline that seeks to create and shape the future in a systemic and participatory way, exploring plausible alternative futures.
